DELL Desktop Computer OptiPlex 960 Core 2 Duo E8400 (3.00 GHz) 4 GB DDR2 250 GB HDD Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

Pros: After purchasing the computer, we had the 250GB hard drive replaced with a 500GB SSD and added 4 GB ram. We had to buy an additional adapter to connect our Samsung monitor to the computer (display port to DVI). Our computer tech transferred my data and I uploaded my existing software such as Office 2003 and Turbo Tax and this computer runs seamlessly. The computer is quiet and there is minimal fan noise. There is hardly any sign of previous use.

Cons: None at the moment

Overall Review: It’s too bad that Newegg does not offer an option to customized this computer such as the SSD drive and added memory. It would save me the hassle of having our tech person order and install them

Pros: I ordered this Optiplex 960 because I love the looks of it. I’ve been waiting for a good deal, and I wanted Windows 7 on it. This is a powerful computer for day to day use…not sure about gaming, as I don’t do that. After putting in a secondary hdd and creating a system image to that drive, I cloned the C: drive to a new SSD. After all the updates were downloaded and installed to the Windows 7, I upgraded to Windows 10. (From what I’ve been reading, it is still possible to upgrade to 10, even though it is past July 28!) Upon verifying that the Windows 10 was authorized, I proceeded to roll back to Windows 7…thus assuring that someday I can upgrade free to Windows 10 if I decide to…I already have Windows 10 on other computers, but I wanted to keep one computer running on Win7, as it is a personal favorite of mine. As soon as the roll back was finished, I did a restore to the system image that was on the secondary HDD. I did this because two previous roll backs on other computers did not result in a perfect OS. Result….a perfect copy of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on a fast SSD…btw, I am using a OCZ SSD this time, and I notice no difference between this and the Samsung EVO 850 in the other 2 computers! I’m very happy with this computer!

Cons: None

Overall Review: I would recommend this computer to anyone who wants a nice, fast computer with Windows 7.

Pros: Desktop P.C. with DELL quality, performance and reliability for reasonable price.

Cons: Came with Win7 Professional. Install default was set to 64 bit. Could NOT use with software that P.C. was purchased for. Software would ONLY work in 32 bit installation. Had to WIPE HDD completely and start over with PURCHASED copy of Win7 Pro that would install in 32 bit mode. NOT GOOD. I encountered additional expense for NO GOOD REASON. Should have been offered choice on installation 32 or 64 bit mode. YES, I know it is s-u-p-p-o-s-e-d to work, but WOULD NOT. 32 bit version worked without any issues what so ever. Software manufacturer did NOT offer 64 bit version of software. ONLY 32 bit version ONLY. Software would NOT attempt to install into 64 bit installation. Other than this issue, P.C. works as advertised. Good P.C. for reasonable price.

Overall Review: CHANGE O.S. PRE-INSTALLATION VERSION TO VERSION THAT WILL ALLOW END USER TO CHOOSE EITHER 32 OR 64 BIT INSTALLATION. NO…..DO NOT REPLACE WIN7 WITH WIN 10 TO RESOLVE ISSUE. That would be comparable to rubbing perfume on a pig. One would have a pig that would smell good for awhile….then when the perfume wears off, it’s still a PIG!!! Not good resolution to problem.
